Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative
IFFCO had promoted a separate Multi-State Cooperative Society named 'Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative Limited' (IFFDC) in 1993 with the prime objective of development of wasteland for tree plantation and to enhance the socio-economic status of rural poor through sustainable Natural Resource Management by collective action.
To achieve this, IFFDC initially implemented afforestation and rural development projects in the States of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan with an objective to improve degraded land, generate employment and provide fuel and fodder to the community. Afforestation in about 29,420 hectare wasteland has been achieved by promoting 152 villages level Primary Farm Forestry Cooperative Societies (PFFCS). These PFFCS cover about 19,331 members, out of which, about 38 per cent are landless and 51 per cent are small/marginal farmers. These PFFCS have 32% women members. The area of operation of IFFDC is in the States of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, West Bengal, Haryana, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh implementing various projects worth more than Rs. 18.10 crore.
Presently, IFFDC is implementing over 27 projects on livelihood and Natural Resources Management in about 9,495 villages across 12 States and Watershed Projects on 16,583 ha area. IFFDC has developed 8,515 Wadis (families) under the Agri-Horticulture Programme in various States in partnership with NABARD. Under various projects, IFFDC is nurturing 1,054 Self Help Groups (SHG) with a total membership of 12,027 of which 95% are women members.
IFFDC is also involved in Seed Multiplication Programme and has undertaken the Seed Production Programme on farmer’s fields in the States of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka to augment the supply of quality seeds.
During 2016-17, total 2.77 lakhs quintals Certified Seed of Kharif Crops i.e. Paddy, Moong, Soyabean, Sesame, Hybrid Bajra, Jute, Onion and Rabi Crops i.e. Wheat, Barley, Gram, Mustard, Coriander Crops were made available to the farmers through IFFCO Farmers Service Centers (FSCs), IFFCO-eBazar, IFFDC Kisan Seva Kendra (KSKs), IFFDC Agro Forestry Service Center (AFSCs), Primary Farm Forestry Cooperative Societies (PFFCS), Cooperative Societies, Government and also to Agricultural Department under Mini kit Scheme of National Mission on Oilseed & Oilpalm (NMOOP) and National Food Security Mission (NFSM). Thus, IFFDC is playing vital role in ensuring Food Security for the nation as well as making seed production venture sustainable for farmers.
In addition, an area of 14,218 hectares is covered under the Seed Production Programme during 2016-17. It is expected that about 4.58 lakh quintals Certified Seed of Kharif Crops i.e. Paddy, Moong, Urd, Soybean, Hybrid Bajra, Hybrid Maize, Jute, Onion and Rabi Crops i.e. Wheat, Barley, Gram, Mustard Crops will be available for marketing during 2017-18.www.iffdc.in
