IFFCO’s Second Ammonia & Urea Production Complex

IFFCO Phulpur Unit manufactures Ammonia and Urea and commissioned its first unit in the year 1980 with a production capacity of 900 MTPD of Ammonia & 1500 MTPD of Urea. Over the years, Phulpur plant has adopted new & more energy efficient technologies to increase production capacity while reducing the energy consumption. Today IFFCO Phulpur plants has two Units with a combined production capacity of 2955 MTPD of Ammonia & 5145 MTPD of Urea.

Foundation stone laid by former PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi on 16th Jan.

Year 1974

Urea plant with a production capacity of 1500 MTPD was commissioned on 15th October 1980. Technology licensed from Snamprogetti, Italy.

Ammonia plant with a production capacity of 900 MTPD was commissioned on 10th October 1980. Technology licensed from M.W. Kellogg, USA.
Year 1980

Urea-II plant with a design capacity of 2200 MTPD was commissioned on 31st October, 1997 based on the technology from M/s Snamprogetti, Italy.

Brownfield Project to double the production capacity of Phulpur Unit was undertaken. Ammonia-II plant with a design capacity of 1350 MTPD was commissioned on 18th December, 1997 based on the technology from M/s Haldor Topsoe, Denmark.
Year 1997

Energy Savings Project was implemented in two phases in Ammonia-I and Ammonia-II plants. Basic Engineering Consultant was M/s Haldor Topsoe, Denmark and Detail Engineering Consultant was M/s PDIL, Noida. Energy savings achieved in GTR was 0.695 Gcal/MT for Ammonia-I plant and 0.157 Gcal/MT for Ammonia-II plant.

Year 2005-2006

Carbon Dioxide recovery unit with capacity of 450 MTPD was installed in December, 2006 making IFFCO first in the country to adopt this technology to recover CO2 from Primary Reformer Exhaust Flue Gas in the Urea Industry.

Year 2006

Capacity Enhancement Project were undertaken in Phulpur-I and Phulpur-II Units.

The production capacity of Phulpur-I increased to 1215 MTPD of Ammonia & 2115 MTPD of Urea, and that of Phulpur-II to 1740 MTPD of Ammonia & 3030 MTPD of Urea.
Year 2008

Energy Savings Project Phase –III were undertaken in Phulpur-I and Phulpur-II Units.  Energy savings achieved in GTR was 0.935 Gcal/MT of Urea for Phulpur-I Unit & 0.386 Gcal/MT of Urea for Phulpur-II Unit. Basic Engineering Consultant was M/s Casale, Switzerland and Detail Engineering Consultant was M/s PDIL, Noida.

Plant Head

Mr. Sanjay Kudesia

Mr. Sanjay Kudesia (Executive Director )

Mr.Sanjay Kudesia, Executive Director, is presently working as Plant Head of Phulpur Unit. Mr.Kudesia holds a B.Tech Degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT, BHU. He Joined IFFCO as a GET in November'85. Since then he has worked in different capacities at Aonla Unit & OMIFCO, Oman. He was also involved in the turnaround and rehabilitation work of the newly acquired Paradeep complex fertiliser plant in 2005. He was working as P&A head at Phulpur prior to his elevation as unit head in 2021.
